As we enter into the month of October, we like to focus on how we can improve our overall health. With roughly 1.7 million new cases of cancer predicted to occur in total for 2018, the reality of the disease becomes overwhelming clear. So for now the best way to fight cancer is to prevent it. We'd love for you to join us in our 6th annual run for Beyond Boobs now known as Here For The Girls offering support to those currently fighting. Join thousands of women during our Pink Pumpkin Run that is sure to improve your overall health as well.
While the cause of cancer is not always clear, research has shown that our environment, our physical activity, and our diet, all are major risk factors. In fact, according to the World Cancer Research Fund, an average of 20% of cancer cases could be prevented if it weren’t for poor nutrition, physical inactivity, excess weight, or alcohol consumption.
Having such strong evidence, therefore, makes reevaluating and reshaping our lifestyles a little more appealing. As the American Cancer Association claims, there are four key factors to consuming a healthy diet, which include the following:
-
Choose foods and beverages in amounts that help achieve and maintain a healthy weight. Water is always our go to and lots of veggies will help in your journey.
-
Limit consumption of red and processed meat. Yes, yes and yes too much of any good thing can catch up to us. We do love us a good streak though so just limit don't deprive.
-
Eat at least 2.5 cups of fruits and vegetables each day. This can be challenging! But, there are so many great recipes out there to sneak in those extra veggies. Flex it Pink Recipes.
-
Choose whole grains instead of refined grain products.
We have researched and compiled a list of the top ten cancer fighting foods. By adding some or all of the items to your diet, your body will receive the vitamins and minerals it needs to be properly nourished and ready to prevent cancer.
