Healthy Eating for Moms

If you follow the millions of Fitness Instagram and Facebook accounts in the social media world, then you'll see a lot of them counting macros, and calories, and a oh so very strict diet. This is all excellent and it takes time, dedication, and a lot of planning. As a mom especially a mom like us (poor planner here), well as two very busy mom's we put macros counting at the bottom of the priority list, don't take that the wrong way we do know that having a healthy proper balance of Carbs, Proteins, and Fats is a priority we currently do not keep strict track of these. With all that being said we will never put clean healthy eating on the bottom of our priority list, that is one that stays on the TOP. We try to stick to the rule that from Jillian Michaels. "If it didn't come from the ground, or a mama don't eat it!" She uses Cheetos as a example of both not having a mom or came from the ground :) now we do cheat on that rule and still drink protein shakes, and love Quest Bars, ClifBars, and all those yummy go to snacks when we need a quick fix, and we also have cheat desserts once a week.  Over the years of being on this fitness journey we have found what works best for us, and once you go through your own journey you will find the same. We do recommend downloading My Fitness Pal app and logging everything you eat and drink to get a good idea of what you are putting into your body.

So lets get to a typical day. Morning Plain Oatmeal sometimes with a scoop of protein, or honey, cinnamon, eggs, etc. AM Snack Normally after our workout we will have a post recovery protein shake sometimes with a banana in it. Snakes, apples with peanut butter, egg whites etc. Lunch Chicken Breast over baby spinach or veggies with home made salsa as dressing. Sometimes sliced avocado, and or brown rice. PM Snack Quest Bars or CliffBar, Larabars, apples, orange, or some sort of healthy snack or bar on hand because this is school pick up times and running errands. If we have left overs sometimes we will have that as a snack as well. Dinners We believe in eating dinner with our families every night and that our children should be eating what we are eating for dinner. We will not make them mac and cheese while mommy eats chicken and veggies. We eat a lot of the same recipes every week but we try to only make the dreaded Chicken and Veggies one night a week or less. Shake and bake is great for chicken breast night becuase you can cut it up for the kids and tell them it's chicken nuggets it works :) We also use ground turkey a lot! Turkey Meatloaf is one of our faves because you can hide 3 whole zucchinis in there or a whole bag of baby spinach without the kids batting an eye about the green stuff :) Lettuce wrap tacos is also a great one. Turkey jalapeno burgers lettuce wrap, the kids can have a whole wheat whole grain bun. Ground Turkey spaghetti is also one of our faves. Mom can have hers over chopped baby spinach, or spaghetti squash and the kids and hubby can have whole grain whole wheat noodles if they like. You can also hide veggies in the sauce of your choice. Baby Spinach is my fave for hiding in things.
Pineterst is a great place to find some awesome recipes also. Left overs are also great for lunch the next day. Seriously you can throw everything over a bowl of baby spinach and it's always good!!
We have many more dinner ideas that we hope to share soon but for now we hope this helps get you by for a little while. Don't ever be afraid of trying new things and subbing things in the kitchen.
Eating healthy does not have to be hard, make it fun and involve the kids it makes them more aware of what they are eating and try to teach them that eating healthy foods makes them grow strong and healthy.
We hope you have a FITtastic Friday Beauties
XOXO
