DETOX Series Week 3 - YOUR BODY (5 things you can do TODAY!)

In the last two weeks we have decluttered our homes and slowly detached ourselves from the digital world.  This week we continue forward with our detox series by moving toward cleansing our physical bodies. Every day our bodies are exposed to harmful toxins that negatively impact our human health.  Whether it’s from the air we breathe, the fluids we drink, or the food we eat, our bodies gradually become polluted, affecting the normal functions of our vital organs.  Therefore, it is important to combat the effects, and control our exposure to, unhealthy chemicals or toxins.  By following a few simple detox tricks each day, your body can benefit greatly and say goodbye to those harsh contaminants!

No guarantees.... But we're pretty sure you will feel magnificent by adding a few daily additions. 

1. Start Each Day with a Glass of Lemon Water

While a simple way to start the day, drinking a glass of lemon water each morning can have tremendous effects on your health.  Lemon by nature helps rid the body of toxins by supporting normal kidney function and aiding the stomach in digestion.  Water of course flushes the negative waste from your kidneys, furthering the detoxification process.  By continuing to drink water itself, or water with lemon throughout the day, you are one step closer to a cleaner, healthier body! One trick we like to do is prepare our lemon water the night before in our FIP Blender Bottle so it packs extra flavor in the morning.

2. Dry Brushing 

Although it might sound odd, dry brushing, or brushing your skin with a natural brush, is a wonderful way to release toxins from your body.  By exfoliating every day, not only do you get the luxury of super soft skin, the toxins that lie within your skin are let out, leaving your body refreshed and recirculated!  You can also try using body scrubs or oil massages to exfoliate out those unwanted toxins. 

3. Detox Friendly Food

When detoxing your body, it’s important to be mindful of what you are putting into it.  This week, try avoiding refined sugars and excess oils. You may also want to limit your intake of processed foods, alcohol, and caffeine.

Wait... no fast food, wine or coffee?

Yeah I know we said it. But, in any instance take a different route.

Fast food = Starbucks Roasted Red Pepper Egg White Bites (170 Calories)

Alcohol = 90 Calorie Spritzers (Be careful of those sugars!)

Coffee = Decaf (It still has caffeine and a great taste!)

So aside from the 3 major "ARE YOU KIDDING ME" what should you eat?  When searching for detox friendly food, the easiest guideline is to look for brightly colored fruits and vegetables!  Try eating lots of citrus fruits, bell peppers, broccoli, cucumbers, walnuts, whole grains, and turnip greens!  By filling your diet with these naturally detoxifying foods, your body will absorb wholesome nutrients and maintain balance.

4. Sweat it Out

Another great way to eliminate toxic buildup is to sweat out what you are keeping inside!  Exercising daily is a great way to release the toxins in your body by sweating out all the negatives (keep your eye out for next week’s blog where we give you seven new exercises to try every day).  It is also possible to sweat out toxins through steaming.  Try using a sauna after the gym or taking a hot yoga class!

5. End Your Day with a Detox Tea

To calm your system at the end of the day, drinking a detox tea can help settle your stomach and prepare you for a good night's rest.  Find teas that include ingredients such as dandelion root, ginger, burdock, lemon, or licorice root.  Each of these plants and herbs have natural detoxifying properties to help end your day of cleansing perfectly.

While it isn’t easy to keep our bodies completely free of chemicals, it is possible to minimize our exposure to pollutants and do our best to expel the toxins that we can.
